Location and Weather at Batemans Bay Brings Visitors Out Year Round!
The Clyde River empties into the Tasman Sea at the mouth of Batemans
Bay. This gem of a holiday spot is roughly a half a days drive from
Sydney and about 90 minutes from the Capital City of Canberra. The
relaxed seaside lifestyle that is so natural to Australians attracts
visitors from near and far.
With fabulous restaurants, incredible fishing, a 27-hole golf course,
perfect weather for scuba diving, surfing, sailing or windsurfing, and
plenty of affordable accommodations, Batemans Bay has something for
everyone to enjoy. Campers are just as welcome as those who come for
reef or deep-sea fishing. Hikers have more than a few choices of where
they would like to explore and which parks, beaches, or wildlife parks
they can visit nearly everyday of the year.
Not only does eco-friendly tourism and oyster farms keep this town
competitive and growing, they provide a nice living for those who choose
to call Batemans Bay their home. A community that has less than 15,000
year round residents plays host to more than 30,000 during the major
holidays. Greeting their visitors in typical Aussie fashion, the
residents make every visitor feel welcomed and appreciated.
The busiest holiday seasons normally run from the beginning of December
through the end of February, which is not surprising when one considers
the warm summer temperatures and variety of activities available.
Temperatures range from the lows between 13.9°C – 15.7°C and the highs
in the area of 24.5°C to 25.5°C all summer long. Of course, summer
rainfalls are higher than any other time of the year, but the rains do
not last long and gently cool down a warm day.
Late spring and early autumn bring with it magnificent thunderstorms
that light up the shoreline and dance beautifully across the waters.
Yet, the temperatures only drop slightly from those of the summer
season. Of course, this is the time that you may want to visit the
natural parks and watch as leaves change from red to orange to gold and
every color in between. Watch carefully and you may witness the whales
migrating to or from their winter spawning grounds, as May and November
are the months you are most likely to see them in larger numbers.
Mild sunny winter days give way to cold winter nights once the sunsets
beyond the ocean horizon. Evening temperatures dipping into the 3.9°C to
4.9°C range reminds you that you need a wrap to keep the chill at bay.
Nevertheless, do not allow the cooler temperatures keep you from a trip
to the seaside, as the Charter Boats run year round. It just means that
you will not have to compete with the summer visitors to get the best
deals on hotels, hostels, and other accommodations. There is still
plenty to do on land and sea to keep you busy. If you would prefer to
simply get away from the city and relax in a quiet, uncomplicated, slow
paced environment, Batemans Bay is the perfect place to rejuvenate after
a long week at work.
